Three months into the calender year, Chris Hebert, an insurance agent with Dwight Andrus Insurance, informed the school board that claims are $764,000 more than the same time last year. Hebert gave a power point presentation to the Vermilion Parish School Board and a packed house on Thursday.

Rayne Police make arrest in burglaries

A Rayne man has been arrested and another is being sought in connection with a number of thefts and burglaries. Police Chief Carroll J. Stelly said Nathaniel Joseph Roberts, 20, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and simple burglary.

Eunice nominated for federal Opportunity Zone

Gov. John Bel Edwards has nominated 150 census tracts in Louisiana that include areas in Eunice and Opelousas for federal certification as Opportunity Zones, which will feature federal tax incentives to attract investment to low-income communities in the state.

Money may dry up for LSUE pool

The state’s budget troubles may mean the pool at LSUE will close. And, along with the pool, an exercise class may come to an end. Renee Fruge, instructor, said the pool is vital to Eunice, but she hears the pool may close to bring in new sports to the campus.
