Henderson mulls property upkeep

The town of Henderson is considering entering into an intergovernmental agreement with St. Martin Parish government to help address the problem of poorly-maintained properties. The issue was raised by a resident’s complaint at the April 9 town council meeting.

Monk named Festival president

Elizabeth Lawson Monk has been chosen as the 82nd International Rice Festival President where she will preside over the annual event to be held the weekend of Oct. 18 - 21 in downtown Crowley.

Crowley man gets 30-year sentence for 2016 stabbing

A Crowley man has been sentenced to 30 years for stabbing two Acadia Parish Narcotic Agents in 2016. Jason Broussard, 44, was sentenced by 15th Judicial District Judge John Trahan to 15 years in prison on each of two charges of aggravated second-degree battery.

Melvin Joseph Crochet

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota for Roger Melvin Joseph Crochet, 71, who died Saturday, April 14, 2018, in Alexandria. Pastor James Cart, of Iota Baptist Church in Iota, will officiate for the services.

(UPDATED) Helicopter pilot makes emergency landing in Patterson

PATTERSON — A PHI Inc. helicopter pilot landed safely Monday morning at Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport after a brief scare related to the aircraft’s control led the sheriff’s office, two fire departments and Acadian Ambulance to stand by.

Robert David

Robert David passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018, at the age of 71. No arrangements have been made at this time. Burial will take place at Ashford Cemetery at a later date. Robert is survived by his wife, Linda H.
