Avoyelles students participate in nation wide “Walk Out”

Some Avoyelles Parish High students have participated in the nation-wide 17 minute “Walk-Out.” According to reports from the parish, Bunkie High had 10 students walk out and LaSAS had 60 walk out for the 17 minutes.

Loaded pellet gun found at Bunkie Elementary

A second grader at Bunkie Elementary Learning Academy was found carrying a loaded pellet gun as he reached the school on Thursday morning, March 15. The student was detained when he first entered the school, according to School Superintendent Blaine Dauzat.

(Updated) Fire destroys Patterson home; no one injured

A fire destroyed a home Wednesday night in the 500 block of David Drive in Patterson, Fire Chief Scott Domingue said. Firefighters responded at 6:40 p.m., and, upon arrival, the home was fully involved with flames. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, he said.

Board committee to study school safety

The St. Martin School Board last week formed a special committee to examine campus security following the Feb. 14 mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school.

It’s official: Cedars now interim parish president
