After months of meetings that failed to yield compromises and threats of a gut-wrenching string of legislative sessions, Gov. John Bel Edwards has finally shared with lawmakers his top policy priorities and a doomsday budget proposal.

School building planned outlined

A building plan for St. Landry Parish public schools began to take shape at a meeting Monday of the School Board’s Buildings, Lands and Sites Committee meeting. But there was no vote so the plan that will be presented to voters on March 24 remains uncertain.

Woman dies in Eunice apartment fire

A 67-year-old woman, Patsy Garcia, was killed in a fire atathe Sweetridge Apartments in Eunice at about 9 a.m. Sunday. First responders were at the scene in the 1500 block of West Maple Avenue, Apt. 32.

Eunice native to speak Sunday

The city of Eunice invites the public to a festival parade, program and an exhibit, “Black Women Against the Odds,” on Sunday. The keynote speaker and parade marshal will be a Eunice native Col. Gwendolyn Hebert Thompson. There will be a parade beginning at the Southeast Center at 2 p.m.

Winter Musical at St. Luke Saturday The St. Luke Inspirational Chorus of Vidrine will present a Winter Musical at 6 p.m. Saturday. There will be male chorus, groups, choir, soloist, and praise team as part of the program.
