School Board asked if cheer coaches should be paid

The St. Landry Parish School Board asked administrators to examine how much cheer coaches are paid in neighboring parishes. A fact established at the Board’s Finance Committee meeting on Monday is cheer coaches are not paid in St. Landry Parish public schools.

Parish budget talks sputter to stalemate

By Harlan Kirgan Editor The St. Landry Parish Council and Parish President Jessie Bellard ended a budget discussion Wednesday with little progress. One point of contention is Bellard’s hiring of two investigators who are paid $62,000 each and charged with enforcing civil and criminal parish laws.

Council’s probe into president’s firings blocked

A district judge pushed the pause button on St. Landry Parish Council’s investigation into Parish President Jessie Bellard’s firing of employees since August 2020. Some 21 parish employees have been fired, Bellard said.
