The Acadia Parish Police Jury and local emergency planning committees are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Day from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 6. Acadia Parish residents can drop off any hazardous waste items at the Rice Arena, located at 159 Cherokee Drive in Crowley.

St. Anthony Catholic Church’s new priest enjoys keeping fit

The Rev. Nicholas “Nick” Ware is a new priest at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. His official first day at the church was July 4. Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel of the Diocese of Lafayette recently posted appointments throughout the parishes that included Father Nicholas Ware.

Qualifying begins Wednesday for November election

Qualifying begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Delta Grand Building, 120 S. Market St., Opelousas, for the Nov. 8 election that includes City of Eunice positions. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday.

Fuel prices take a toll on parish budget

Rising fuel prices are taking a toll on the St. Landry Parish Government budget, but Parish President Jessie Bellard said there’s more to the story. “Keep in mind that we are doing more work than we ever did before,” he said. “Whenever that happens it is going to cost more money.
