War, inflation drive precious metal prices up

War and inflation are driving the price of gold up, said Robert “Bob” Fontenot, owner and manager of Jerry’s Jewelers, at the Rotary Club on Wednesday. Fontenot, a gold coin collector, brought with him some of his collection pieces. He also had pieces of gold and silver jewelry. “I just enjoy it!

Early voting continues Monday

Early voting for the March 26 election continues Monday through March 19. Three propositions placed on the ballot by the St. Landry Parish School Board — two for building programs and one for pay raises — are the highlight on the ballot. Early voting is conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dispute over meth lands man in jail

A domestic dispute over who smoked the meth in the house ended with a Eunice man facing charges. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of McKenzie at about 4 p.m. Wednesday about a male with a gun shooting several rounds in the residence.

Sales tax revenues up, but growth slows

The surprising fact is sales tax revenue in St. Landry Parish grew during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the report for February indicates the march of growth is slowing. The decreases were found in comparing January to February collections.
