Woman pleads guilty to drunken driving on Eunice school campus

An Arnaudville woman arrested on her third DUI in six weeks after driving onto an elementary school campus in Eunice has pleaded guilty in the case. Skyla Briley, 29, pleaded guilty on Feb. 23 to first-offense driving while intoxicated before Judge M. Terrance Hoychick in Eunice City Court.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. March 4 Kathleen Monique Ranton, 38, 100 block of East Oak Avenue, Eunice. Domestic abuse battery. Arrested by Eunice Police. Dustin Drake Sonnier, 24, 200 block of MLK Jr. Drive, Port Barre.

Armentor looks to guide Savoy Medical Center to new areas

When people think of Savoy Medical Center, their first thoughts might not be about growth and opportunity. These were the initial thoughts of the new CEO. However, under its previous administrator, Gene Burge, the Mamou-based hospital had become sustainable and poised for growth.

Confederate monument getting booted off courthouse grounds

A century-old Confederate monument on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse grounds is about to be removed. A Parish Council committee voted unanimously to forward the decision on removing the monument to the full Council meeting on March 16.

High-speed internet planned for area

Within two years fiber-optic cable is to be installed to about 22,500 households in the Tri-Parish area. The announcement was made Thursday in a news conference held in the Eunice City Council Chamber.
