Fire marshal rescinds statewide burn ban/ St. Landry Parish ban dropped

Due to recent dry conditions statewide being sufficiently alleviated following several rain events, State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, along with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, is rescinding the statewide cease and desist order for all private burning issued on Feb. 15.

Why I’m pro-choice (when it comes to masks)

I’m going to out myself here: I am a Bad Masker. By that I mean I wear them when I’m forced to do so by some misguided governmental fiat, but when I do, I don’t wear them well.

Four-day workweek? I wish.  

Three-day weekends sound good to me. According to Business Insider, a movement is afoot for companies to offer employees four-day work weeks — 10 hours a day over four days, rather than eight hours over five days — so they may enjoy three-day weekends.

Church Point Mardi Gras Run is Sunday

The Church Point Mardi Gras arrives beginning with Saturday’s Children’s Parade followed on Sunday with thae adult Courir de Mardi Gras Run. The children’s run starts with registration from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Saddle Tramp Clubhouse. The run begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.

Basile Mardi Gras begins Friday

The Basile Mardi Gras includes the following. 7 p.m. Friday, Basile Roadhouse. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Basile Roadhouse. Mardi Gras Run begins at the Town Park at 7 a.m. and ends at the town park around 3 p.m. with music by Mark LeLeux and Chanky-Chank playing under the Pig Barn from 2 to 5 p.m.

Parade of Paws set for Saturday

It’s Calling for All Dog lovers...The 6th annual Parade of Paws will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Eunice. One can register in advance for $10 at Beaucoup located on South 2nd in Eunice. Registration will also be held the day of the parade from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

St. Landry Parish public schools may ditch masks mandate

After two years of COVID-19 precautions, the St. Landry Parish School Board may be poised to eliminate the requirement to wear masks in schools. A mask mandate for school buses will remain due to federal requirements.
