Eunice native Lisa Dies Roy is leading a company’s teams that help build field hospitals across the country in response the coronavirus COVID-19. Roy, 48, of Baton Rouge, was featured in a Wall Street Journal story published April 13. She is the daughter of Darrell and Marilyn Dies, of Eunice.

Chief: Arrests near in shootings

Nearly routine shootings have returned to some areas of Eunice in what may be a case of competing gangs. Police Chief Randy Fontenot said arrests are pending as investigations continue into the shootings.

Parade for city’s high school seniors planned

The city’s high school seniors who have been forced out their classrooms by the coronavirus will have something else to remember about this school year. For the first time, a parade of the city’s high school seniors is planned on Park Avenue at 6 p.m. May 15.

DeVillier’s severance tax bill advances

Though state government is facing a huge drop in revenues because of the coronavirus pandemic, almost the first legislation that moved out Monday from the Louisiana House tax committee was a bill to reduce the severance tax charge on the production of oil.

St. Landry Parish School System sets June graduation ceremony dates

The St. Landry Parish School System announced Tuesday that it has rescheduled high school graduations ceremonies to take place June 19 and 20. “These dates are subject to change due to social distancing guidelines and the governor’s orders.

Tips sought in Iota High School burglary

The Iota Police Department is investigating a burglary at Iota High School that occurred at about at 2:30 a.m. March 10. Two suspects were captured on video surveillance entering through a window and walking throughout the school.
