Groundwater model could help conserve Louisiana resource

Working to save one of Louisiana’s most valuable resources, LSU Civil and Environmental Professor Frank Tsai is in the process of creating a statewide groundwater model that will enable future generations to conserve the state’s most precious commodity—water.

KBON founder Marx, 71, dies

Local musician Travis Matte revisited a song Monday that he recorded five years ago with radio pioneer Paul Marx, who died Sunday at the age of 71. Marx’s song, “Don’t Cry for Me when I’m Gone,” has a different meaning now than it did in 2014 when Matte recorded it at his studio.

Crawfish Etouffeé Cook-off is Sunday

The 34th annual World Championship Crawfish Etouffeé Cook-off is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Northwest Pavilion on Samuel Drive. The family-oriented event offers étouffeé from a variety of chefs with crews serving from decorative booths. Admission, parking and live music is free.

Fire destroys rural Eunice house; family needs help

A morning fire destroyed Blake and Amelia Smith’s at 368 Lafleur Road northeast of Eunice on Sunday. Amelia Smith, who was home at the time, with her two younger children and pets, said she heard what sounded like a crackling sound and called 911 at about 6:20 a.m.
