Broussard goes from movie cameo to the Zydeco Capital Jam

Fresh off his appearance in the hit movie “Sinners,” accordion legend Jeffery Broussard returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. May 10 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. The Zydeco Capital Jam is open to musicians of all skill levels.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Friday, May 2 Brenton Paul Sonnier, 36, 1700 block of Bayou Road, Port Barre.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigators arrested five people after receiving a tip that the occupants were cooking drugs, selling drugs from a house at 1311 Nash Drive in Opelousas and were in possession of firearms.   Upon further investigation, investigators were able to locate the narcotics, seize the firearms and arrest the five adult occupants.

VFW Post, Auxiliary honors Americanism Essay winners

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 and Ladies Auxiliary sponsors an Americanism essay contest for Eunice students. Students from all Eunice elementary, junior high and high schools enter and participate in the contest.
