St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz at first hesitated to comment about the election of his former spokesperson Clay Higgins to the 3rd Congressional District seat.
But Guidroz finally commented at Wednesday Eunice Rotary Club meeting about Higgins’ new job.
“I wish him well. I hope his career as a congressman is good and is good for us, for the 3rd District,” Guidroz said. “I wish him well.”
After 16 months on the job as the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office public information officer and Crime Stoppers spokesman, Higgins was asked by Guidroz to tone down his Crime Stoppers presentations.
Higgins gained national attention for the swaggering, confrontational style as the Crime Stoppers spokesman.
But after Guidroz requested a moderation of the style, Higgins quit the job in a public event in front of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse in February 2016.
In December, Higgins won election to Congress with 56 percent of the vote.
