Boy accidentally shoots self

Eunice Police are saying a 12-year-old boy accidentally shot himself with a semi-automatic pistol at about 5 p.m. Monday at his home.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said the shooting occurred at the youth’s East Dean Street home.
The youth was transferred by helicopter to a Baton Rouge hospital where he died, he said.
Fontenot said the magazine was out of the handgun. Apparently the boy thought the gun was unloaded and didn’t realize a shell was in the chamber, he said.
