4-vehicle wreck slows traffic at key intersection

Body

A four-vehicle wreck at U.S. 190 and La. 13 Saturday morning damaged the traffic light turning the intersection into a four-way stop.
Investigating Eunice Police Officer Chase Godeaux said the initial call was about a vehicle crashing into a traffic pole and the pole was on the road.
But it was quite a bit more than that one vehicle.
There was a person trapped in one of the vehicles involved in the wreck, he said.
Four people were taken to hospitals for treatment resulting from the wreck, he said.
“It was kind of a mess,” he said of the scene.
The wreck occurred as an 18-wheeler and three other vehicles were facing east on U.S. 190.
The tractor-trailer, driven by Gannon Mouton, 41, of Lafayette, was starting a turn to head north on La. 13 when a white 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Roger Thomas II, of Washington, came from behind it and struck a 1994 blue Mercury Grand Maquis driven by Brandon Robinson, 20, of Eunice, Godeaux said.
The white pickup also struck the right rear of the trailer, said.
The Mercury was pushed into a red 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Charley McKenzie, 23, of Eunice, he said. There were two passengers in the GMC and one, Larry Turner, 23, of Eunice, was taken to the hospital for treatment, he said.
All of the drivers, except for the 18-wheeler driver, were taken to hospitals, he said.
Thomas was taken to Lafayette General Hospital where he was treated for a broken bone in his leg, he said.
The two pickup trucks and the car ended up on the southeast corner of the intersection near the Raceway gasoline station, he said.
Godeaux said there were six impact points on each vehicle.
A dirt bike, which was in the Chevrolet pickup’s bed, was launched out of the vehicle onto the Raceway parking lot, he said.
Godeaux said the investigation was still underway on Tuesday.
