A 20-year-old Eunice man was arrested in Houston by U.S. Marshal deputies Thursday in the attempted first-degree murder of a 4-year-old boy, Eunice Police Detective Robert Brickley said.
Cordero Anderson, of the 500 block of Lewis Street, was being held in Houston for an extradition hearing expected to occur next week.
The 4-year-old victim was released from the hospital a week ago and is expected to make a full recovery, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
“He was brought to the hospital just in time,” Fontenot said.
On Nov. 16, Acadian Medical Center personnel reported a badly beaten boy, Brickley said.
The boy’s mother said while she was at work the boy was left in the care of her boyfriend. The mother received a call from Anderson’s mother that she was bringing the child to the emergency room, he said
It was determined the child had severe internal injuries and was transferred to a children’s hospital, he said.
Brickley said it was learned the injuries were suffered earlier in the morning and the child was not taken to the hospital until several hours later.
“He didn’t render any type of aid to the child,” he said of Anderson.
Anderson was arrested in Houston without incident, he said.
