A man who offered to help a woman find her missing cell phone struck her in the back of the head and raped her in a camper near Sunset, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release.
Charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree rape is Eliezer Soto Lloret, 31, of the 100 block of Interstate 49 North Service Road, Sunset, the sheriff said.
On May 14, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a rape victim at a Lafayette hospital.
The victim noticed her cell phone was missing and Lloret told her that a friend took it and offered to bring her to the phone, Guidroz siad.. The victim followed Lloret in her vehicle to a camper, he said. Upon entering the camper, the victim stated she was struck in the rear of her head by an unknown object and Lloret raped her, Guidroz said.
When she awakened hours later, she was lying in the bed in the camper covered in blood with no one around. The victim left the camper in her vehicle and sought medical treatment.
The victim sustained a skull fracture and had subdural hemorrhaging. The sexual assault nurse examiner advised there was evidence of a sexual assault. A medical kit was then completed.
Lafayette and St. Landry Sheriff’s Office detectives using the description from the victim, the location of the camper, and the suspect’s vehicle, were able to obtain a search warrant.
Lloret was not present at the time of the search warrant and had fled the state, Guidroz stated.
Detectives were able to collect a significant amount of evidence from the scene, Guidroz stated.
A warrant was issued for Lloret’s arrest.
“Lloret was entered into the national crime data base as a wanted person. Conway, South Carolina, authorities contacted our office advising us that he was arrested in their state,” he stated
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s detectives traveled to Conway recently and transported to the St. Landry Parish where he was booked, Guidroz stated.
