Deadline nears for sheriffs’ scholarships

Sheriffs in St. Landry and Acadia parishes announced they will award $500 scholarships through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program.
The scholarships will be awarded to a graduating senior in each parish.

There are no restrictions on the purposes for which scholarship funds may be spent except that they must be utilized in pursuit of a higher education within the state of louisiana. The recipient of the scholarship must enroll as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college or university within the state of louisiana. The scholarship is not a loan and is awarded as a gift to defray expenses associated with tuition and related expenses.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Louisiana and their parish.
Application packets may be picked up at participating high schools in st. Landry and Acadia parishes.
Completed applications must be received by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office no later than April 1.

Winners will be determined by an independent selection committee and announced by May 1..
In Acadia Parish, completed applications must be submitted to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office on or before April 1. Further, applicants must be eligible for admission to the school indicated on the application. The award will only be paid for attendance at institutions of higher learning within the state.
