Juvenile arrested after Highland Elementary break-in

A break-in occurred about midnight Sept. 17 at Highland Elementary, but by 9 a.m. a 15-year-old male juvenile was arrested for the crime.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said a window was broken and door pried open at the school.
After the entry, there was an attempt to steal lunch money, but the money is not kept overnight at the school, he said.
Medications kept for students were stolen, he said.
The juvenile was captured on a surveillance video and identified by the investigating officer, he said.
The suspect was spotted at about 9 a.m. walking on the street and was arrested.
The juvenile is charged with damaging the property, tampering with the surveillance system, theft and simple burglary, he said.
Once booked, the juvenile was release to the custody of his father, he said.
