Renaissance Pep Rally at Eunice High School

Eunice High School celebrated its annual Renaissance Pep Rally Friday morning. The event is considered an academic excellence celebration and its focus is on students who go above and beyond in academic performance. Students earning a 3.0 grade point average and above are awarded for their excellent grades throughout the year.
This year’s theme was, “EHS Success is a Thriller.” The emcees for the event were Jacques Joubert, Chad Andrepont and Kasey Andrepont.

Eunice Mardi Gras Run begins with blue skies, chickens flying (for a little while)

The Eunice Mardi Gras started from the Northwest Community Center under blue skies. The Mardi Gras was held last year with about 50 runners who braved freezing temperatures and icy conditions. This morning was near perfect weather for about 400 participants. The parade is scheduled in downtown Eunice at about 3 p.m. (Photos by Harlan Kirgan)

Eunice Children's Mardi Gras parade

The Eunice Children’s Mardi Gras run and parade was held Sunday. Ben Fontenot, the Children’s Captaine’ and organizer, said there were 375 registrants for the run and nearly 54 vehicles including trailers were registered. Fontenot added that there were about 40 to 50 registered from out of town, some were from Texas.
Children enjoyed 4 different chicken chases along the route. There were six age groups per stop that participated in the chicken chase. The Children’s Mardi Gras route was approximately 10 miles. Lunch was served at noon at the Northwest Community Center.
