2 dead in Acadia Parish crash involving a motor home

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 westbound west of Crowley.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as a 2000 Newmar motorhome was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the right lane and experienced a rapid tire deflation. The motorhome crossed into the left lane of travel and sideswiped a 2012 Honda Civic, operated by 34-year-old Samuel Martinez Jr. of Fayetteville, North Caroline. After impact the motorhome continued to travel off the roadway, struck a bridge guardrail, and then overturned on its left side in the median.
Despite the fact that both the driver and passenger of the motorhome were properly restrained, they suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. They were pronounced deceased on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. The identity of the driver and passenger or are unknown at this time, and Troopers are working to determine identification.
Both Martinez and a passenger were properly restrained, and were transported from the scene to local hospitals with minor injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, and toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, the results of which are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
