A second man associated with the Gremlin Gang of Vermilion Parish is charged with four murder counts in connection with a Christmas party shooting in Eunice.
Darron Carter, 20, of the Lafayette area, was arrested Tuesday in Lafayette, and is charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Also charged in the shooting is Rontreal J. Prejean (A.K.A. “D-Jack”), 18, of the 400 block of Madison Street in Lafayette. Prejean also is charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Carter was located in Lafayette by officers with the Eunice Police, Lafayette Police and Louisiana State Police. He was taken into custody without incident.
Carter was released late last year on a reduced bond associated with a Gremlin Gang racketeering case out of Vermilion Parish, a Eunice Police news release stated.
Tyrie Frederick, 23, of Eunice died from multiple gunshots in the shooting that occurred at 1:20 a.m. Dec. 23 at the Southeast Neighborhood Center on City Avenue in Eunice.
According to Eunice Chief of Police, Randy Fontenot, the shooting occurred following an altercation during a Christmas party at the center. Prejean, a rapper, hired to entertain at the party allegedly pulled a handgun and began shooting at the victim, striking and killing him, Fontenot said in a news release.
Frederick was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Three others, 14- and 15-year-old males and a 22-year-old female, were also struck by bullets. They were all treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Sgt. Robert Brickley, lead investigator in the case, said the investigation into the shooting is continuing and may result in additional arrests.
