An 18-year-old Church Point man is accused of turning his purchase of a rifle into an armed robbery, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Arrested is Jason Keith Alexander, of the 100 block of Leon Lane, Church Point.
Alexander is charged with armed robbery, possession of stolen firearms, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal use of a controlled dangers substance in the presence of a person under 17 years old, Guidroz said.
The victim said he and Alexander made a deal for Alexander to purchase a rifle from him through a text on Tuesday.
When Alexander arrived at the home, the victim placed the rifle on the front seat of Alexander’s car when Alexander pulled out a pistol and told the victim to “get back,” Guidroz said in a news release.
Seeing he was being robbed, the victim backed away and did not try to resist. Alexander drove away in his vehicle with the stolen rifle, he said.
The victim was able to describe Alexander and the vehicle he was driving along with the house he lived in but did not know his name.
Patrol deputies then arrived at the home and spoke to a female who stated Alexander was not there and that it was just her and her 3-month-old in the home. Deputies could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the home and asked if she knew of any drugs in the home, the female advised the deputies no, Guidroz said. The female then phoned Alexander to come back to the home.
About 20 minutes later, Alexander drove up to the residence in the suspect vehicle used in the armed robbery, Guidroz said.
Guidroz said Alexandria admitted to robbing the victim at gun point and having marijuana inside the home. Deputies recovered several individually wrapped bags of marijuana and weighing scales from inside the home, he said.
Alexander then led deputies to another home where he had hid the pistol used in the robbery and the stolen rifle, Guidroz said.
“Once deputies arrived at the home, the deputies ran the serial number to the pistol Alexander used in the robbery. It was discovered that the pistol was also from Acadia Parish in 2013,” Guidroz said.
Alexandria was arrested and transported to the parish jail for booking.
Deputies also recovered a 30-round magazine and a black ski mask inside the vehicle.
The case is being forwarded to the St. Landry and Acadia parish detectives section for further investigations.
