A 20-year-old Church Point man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of farm workers Thursday on Maggie Lane near Church Point.
Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson identified the man as Zachary Daigle, 20, of Church Point. Daigle was charged with armed robbery and has been booked into the Acadia Parish Jail, he said.
Daigle’s bail was set at $100,000.
Gibson said in a news release that Daigle used his vehicle to block a vehicle driven by farm workers at about 5 p.m. Thursday.
After cutting the workers’ vehicle off, Daigle produced a handgun and fled with cash, he said.
Deputies were provided with the suspect description, vehicle description and a partial license plate number, he said.
“At 7:23 p.m., the patrol deputy spotted a vehicle in Church Point which matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Further investigation led to identifying the suspect in this armed robbery as well as recovery of the weapon used,” Gibson said.
“This was an outstanding job done by our deputies. The work that was done to locate this suspect and close out this case with in a couple of hours, shows their dedication to resolving criminal activity in our parish,” Gibson said.
