Sheriff: Driver hit with bright light then shots fired in road rage

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated a road rage incident about 8:30 p.m. Sunday just north of Rayne on La. 35, according to Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
Police were called after a vehicle passed another on La. 35, then turned on a bright light on the rear of this vehicle, blinding the victim’s, Gibson said.
The victim looked for an opportunity to pass the vehicle, but was met with shots being fired at his vehicle according to the victim’s statement, Gibson said in a news release.

Missing juvenile

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 15-year-old Racquel Heaven Malone who left her foster home near Basile during the night or early morning hours of Aug. 21 – 22 and has not been seen since.
Malone is described as a white female, medium build, 5’4” in height, weighing 130 pounds with long black hair and brown eyes.

Fugitive sought in Acadia Parish

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputies need help to locate Billy Joe Hanks.
Hanks is described as a white male, 44 years of age, 6’1” tall and weighing 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and his last known address is 206 Blue Bonnet Dr., Crowley.
Hanks led deputies on a high-speed pursuit then exited his vehicle and evaded deputies by swimming across a bayou. He later stole a John Deere tractor from a nearby farmer. The tractor was recovered the following day.

Sheriff: 2 are suspects to multiple burglaries

A couple of felons face multiple charges in connection with burglaries, according to Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
Gibson identified the suspects as Christopher Byerley, 38, of Broussard and April Viguerie, 37, of Erath. Both are charged with four counts of possession of stolen property, 11 counts of possession of firearms by convicted felons and one count of possession of a unregistered firearm, he stated in a news release.
Their bail has been set at $60,000.

Acadia deputies arrest on heroin charge

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division deputies arrested a man who has ties to the Iota area for distribution of heroin, according to Sheriff KP Gibson.
The arrest was made in the Basile area of Acadia Parish.
“Agents conducting an undercover investigation met with the suspect and purchased 3.6 grams of heroin. The suspect in this case is believed to be dealing heroin between Acadia Parish up to the Kinder area” Gibson stated.
