The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office Fatality Crash Team continues an investigation into a Dec. 23 crash on Riceland Road north of Soldier Road in eastern Acadia Parish, according to a news release from Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
The investigation has revealed that a 1990 Jeep Wrangler was traveling on Riceland Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve and overturned. One of the passengers received critical injuries and has been hospitalized since the accident.
On Jan. 2, the passenger, identified as 19-year-old Jasmine Hebert of Sunset died as a result of her injuries, Gibson stated.
The driver identified as 18-year-old Branden Romero of Duson was arrested on the charge of negligent homicide, Gibson stated.
Romero was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
Blood samples were obtained from the driver on the evening of the accident as required by law for toxicology. Results are pending at this time.
