A 32-year-old Eunice man is accused of threatening children with an AR-15 rifle, beating an 18-year-old woman and threatening a 15-year-old girl.
Fredrick Demall Stevens, 32, of the 1400 block of Jacob Road, was arrested Monday by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Stevens is charged with illegal use of weapons, aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of domestic abuse battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a news release from Guidroz.
On Monday, “...Fredrick Stevens was pointing a rifle at some kids and threatening them. Additional calls were received stating that Stevens was beating an 18-year-old female and threatening another 15-year-old.  Stevens also had fired six to seven shots from his rifle,” Guidroz sated.
When deputies arrived on the scene in the 1400 block of Jacob Road, they saw Stevens running into the house, Guidroz stated.
Stevens was contacted by phone and agreed to leave the house unarmed, he stated. After he left the house, Stevens was arrested, he said.
“During a search of the home, deputies recovered the AR-15 used in the assault hidden underneath a bed in Steven’s room.  Deputies were able to view a video captured by cell phone of Stevens threatening the 15-year-old female while in possession of the rifle. Investigation revealed that the victims involved were Steven’s step kids. Stevens is a convicted felon and currently has no bond,” Guidroz reported.
“I want to commend our deputies in the quick response and very professional action taken in this case. Our deputies undergo strenuous training to handle these complaints for a peaceful end to a violent situation. Anytime a weapon is involved the results could be deadly,” Guidroz stated.
