Eunice Police was dispatched to LSUE campus on early Sunday morning responding to a call about a subject on campus near the Bengal Village apartments who was fighting and assaulting others.
According to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot, “A student at LSUE, who was apparently under the influence of drugs or alcohol started fighting and causing a disturbance with other students. It took several officers to subdue him. Two of our officers were injured, requiring medical attention. The student also required medical attention.”
Fontenot said, “As of now he has not been arrested or charged, however, charges are pending, and is under investigation.
“All charges will be handled in district court in Crowley, in Acadia parish.”
Fontenot also said that other students were injured as well and he was told that the campus police are handling this situation, and are investigating.
According to a Lafayette television station, LSUE Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson sent a letter stating “As many of you are aware, an LSUE student and Bengal Village resident, under the influence of a dangerous synthetic substance, contributed to an extremely serious incident that resulted in harm to fellow students, staff, local law enforcement officers and property damage at Bengal Village. Thankfully, there were no serious physical injuries to anyone. However, many are shaken and traumatized by this event.”
The student who contributed to this event is in custody and will not be returning to campus, she stated.
