Eunice Police are seeking donations to bring back a K9 unit targeting drugs.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said, “We are looking into getting another K-9 for narcotics since we retired our other two because of their age and the cost.”
The department does not have money in its budget for a dog, so a fundraising effort is under way.
A dog and training cost about $10,000, he said. There are also costs with equipping a police vehicle to accommodate a dog, he said.
“Although our officers work during each shift to get illegal drugs off your streets, my goal as your chief, is to stop drugs from entering our city,” Fontenot wrote in a letter about the fundraising.
Fontenot designated Lt. Michael Dunn to lead the fundraising. Dunn may be reached at 337-457-2626.
Campaign chairwoman is Kimberly Loewer. Contact here at 337-580-3108 or kloew39@yahoo.com.
