Shortly before 5:30 a.m. Troop I was notified of a fatal crash on La. 100 east of La. 3070 that claimed the life of 31-year-old Anthony Leger of Iota.
According to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release, the preliminary investigation revealed 18-year-old Hayden Adams of Crowley was operating a 2001 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on La. 100. At the same time, Leger was cycling eastbound in the westbound lane of La. 100. While traveling east, Adams crossed into the westbound lane (in a legal passing zone) and began to pass eastbound vehicles. While in the process of passing a vehicle, the Tacoma struck the bicycle which Leger was operating.
Leger sustained critical injuries and was taken to Acadia General Hospital in Crowley where he was later pronounced dead.
Adams was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He voluntarily submitted to a chemical test and troopers determined he was not impaired.
A standard toxicology sample was obtained from Leger and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
