An Opelousas man is charged with three counts of sexual battery on two juvenile female family members.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz identified the man arrested on July 28 as Lewis G. Champagne II, 56, 10975 Highway 190, Opelousas.
Champagne was seeing a mental health professional for undisclosed reasons. During the first session, Champagne did not truthfully speak of the reason he was seeking professional assistance, Guidroz said.
During the second session, Champagne admitted to inappropriately touching a juvenile female relative several times, Guidroz said.
“Upon further investigation by detectives, it was determined that Lewis Champagne had inappropriately touched two juvenile female family members, who were under the age of 16 years at the time of the incidents. Lewis Champagne admitted to the sexual abuse in text messages to the mother of the juveniles and apologized for his behavior,” Guidroz stated in a news release.
Champagne’s bail was set at $36,000.
