A Eunice man who ran a stop sign at Nimitz and U.S. 190 at about 11 a.m. Wednesday was pursued at speeds over 100 mph, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
Larry Joseph Mason, 30, of the 100 block of North Beulah Street, was driving a gray Kia and wasn’t on the police radar on Wednesday until the vehicle was spotted running the stop sign, Fontenot said.
The Kia darted across Laurel “and didn’t slow down,” Fontenot said.
The Kia also almost hit a police car, he added.
From Nimitz, the chase turned west on Maple Avenue then south on La. 13. At one point, the Kia ran into the ditch around Mowata before turning toward Church Point.
Mason was supposed to be on house arrest and the police chief speculated that might be why Mason led police on a chase that ended when police lost sight of the vehicle around the McDonald’s in Church Point, Fontenot said.
Mason parked the Kia in Church Point and he was caught by Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputies, Fontneot said.
Mason is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated flight in vehicle and stop signs and yield signs.
