Church Point Police are investigating a fight that took place during its Mardi Gras parade.
Chief Albert Venable says the fight is under investigation, and detectives are interviewing witnesses.
One of the men in the fight was knock out after his head hit a trailer.
That man was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
Chief Venable also said that this was the only major incident during this year’s Mardi Gras festivities.
When looking at a video of the incident, it appears that one of the men who may have been riding in the parade began having words with a man in the crowd. The man near the float stood up to challenge the man who charged him, knocking his head into the metal rear of the float and rendering him unconscious.
However, that didn’t end the violence as several people ran into the fray - some pulling the man off of the unconscious man and others still punching and choking the man who had been knocked out.
People could be heard from the crowd calling for police with one woman screaming “this is crazy...the dude is knocked out.”
Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact the Church Point Police department at (337) 685-5455.
