A 29-year-old Eunice woman is charged with criminal mischief and theft after police say she stole a razor blade and put it into her food at a fast food restaurant.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said in a news release that Correill Bradley was encountered on May 15 after police were contacted by Acadian Medical Center personnel.
Bradley was reporting she was injured from a “... foreign object that was found inside of her food she purchased at a local fast food restaurant,” he said.
“Bradley claimed that once she left the restaurant and was driving, she bit into the sandwich and felt a strange object in her food and pain to her mouth. Bradley claims she went home and discovered that the sandwich contained a razor blade,” Fontenot said.
“Initially, Bradley did not wish to file a report with police, stating she did not want to get anyone in trouble, but later agreed to a report but refused to write a statement,” he said.
Officers did not believe the injuries were consistent with biting into an object, but appeared to possibly self-inflicted, he said.
Officers recovered the sandwich and the razor blade, he said.
“It appeared to be a new razor and that it showed no signs of being mixed into any contents of the sandwich,” he said.
“While awaiting security footage from the restaurant, Officers looked into local stores that sold similar razor blades. Officers located a store that sold the same blade and discovered that the store was missing a pack from their inventory. Officers were able to obtain security video showing Bradley going into the store and removing a pack of razors minutes before she purchased the sandwich. Bradley did not pay for the razor blades before leaving the store,” he said.
Fontenot said officers also discovered on the day of the incident Bradley had filed an insurance claim with the restaurant’s insurer and sought representation of an attorney.
“Officers were able to review security video footage of the restaurant and discovered that Bradley walked into the restaurant minutes after she left the store where she stole the razor blades. Officers also determined that no one at the restaurant placed any contraband inside of the sandwich and lead officers to believe that the claims made by Bradley were false,” he said.
Bradley was charged on Friday, according to Fontenot, who said the investigation continues and other charges are possible.
