Two Eunice Police officers said they smelled marijuana in a car stopped near Fred’s on Wednesday, but they ended up finding much more — $4,655 in cash.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said Lt. Jeremy Ivory and Sgt. Quitin Doyles were following up on an investigation and information received about a vehicle.
The department’s radio logs stated that at 2:08 p.m. an unknown caller advised that “Goldmouth” was exchanging drugs at Fred’s.
Ivory and Doyle searched the black Saturn SUV and found the cash and synthetic marijuana, Fontenot said.
The radio log stated the money was in a black case in the rear compartment of the vehicle.
“Female advised it’s from income tax, but has no paperwork to show proof so the money and drugs will be seized,” the log stated.
Arrested was Dustin Johnson, 31, 100 block of East Ardoin, Eunice.
“Once he was arrested and transported to the police department for booking marijuana was found in his mouth, which he concealed from officers and tried to introduce into our jail,” Fontenot said.
Johnson was charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule 1 drug 28 grams or more, introduction to contraband in a penal facility and possession of marijuana 14 grams.
Ivory said Johnson has an extensive record of drug arrests.
