Shortly before midnight Wednesday, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputies stopped Allen Savoy, 27, of Church Point, but he fled, Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson said in a news release.
Savoy next wrecked his vehicle as he fled and deputies were able to take him into custody, Gibson said.
The sheriff said Savoy suffered minor injuries and no other person was hurt.
Deputies recovered $47,445, four firearms and about $65,000 in drugs from Savoy, Gibson said. Two of the firearms were stolen, he said.
The drugs were 535 grams of cocaine with a street value of $58,800; 679 oxycodone pills with a street value of $6,800; 18.6 grams of marijuana with a street value of $745; and one buprenorphine pill with a street value of $10.
Gibson said after receiving medical attention, Savoy was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail for possession of Schedule I narcotics, possession of Schedule II narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, transaction involving proceeds from controlled dangerous substance activity, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with obliterated numbers, two counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics, illegal possession of stolen property and obstruction of justice.
“This is our mission as a department. To get over $65,000 worth of illegal drugs off of the streets of Acadia Parish is a major accomplishment. I applaud our department’s efforts as all deputies have stepped up their efforts to serve our citizens to the best of their ability” Gibson said.
Gibson credited the Acadia Parish Crime Suppression Unit with the arrest.
“The purpose of CSU is to fight street level crimes which can be an array of issues. The major issue we have focused on is street level narcotics. This is the route of most criminal activity and we are going to keep fighting it” Gibson said.
