A Church Point man is accused of impersonating a detective in order to burglarize a residence in Palmetto on June 24, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
When deputies arrived at the residence in the 100 block of Rideau Church Road in Palmetto, the victim told them a person impersonating a detective from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted him immediately before the burglary, Guidroz stated.
Detectives determined that Rod Mouille Jr., 28, of the 500 block of North Ethel Street, Church Point, knew the victim and did work around the house in the past, giving him knowledge of the residence contents.
Mouille called the victim, told him that he was a detective from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and requested that the victim meet with him in Opelousas, Guidroz stated.
While the victim was lured from the residence, Mouille broke into the residence and stole a .22-caliber magnum pistol, 16 gauge youth shotgun, .22-caliber magnum rifle, and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, Guidroz stated.
On June 29, Mouille contacted the victim through social media and text messages. Guidroz stated Mouille admitted to burglarizing the residence and stealing the firearms. He also stated that he sold the firearms to another individual.
On Nov. 10, Mouile was booked at the St. Landry Parish Jail for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, fraudulent personation of a police officer and four counts of theft of a firearm.
Guidroz stated more arrests are expected in this case.
