Sheriff: Driver hit with bright light then shots fired in road rage

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated a road rage incident about 8:30 p.m. Sunday just north of Rayne on La. 35, according to Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
Police were called after a vehicle passed another on La. 35, then turned on a bright light on the rear of this vehicle, blinding the victim’s, Gibson said.
The victim looked for an opportunity to pass the vehicle, but was met with shots being fired at his vehicle according to the victim’s statement, Gibson said in a news release.
Rayne Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle as it entered the city of Rayne, stopping the vehicle and detaining the suspect, he said.
A passenger in the victim’s vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
Michael Nugent, 22 of Rayne, was booked on two counts of attempted second-degree murder. Bail . has been set at $250,000.
