A single-vehicle crash on U.S. 167 near Alligator Lane in Evangeline Parish claimed the life of 22-year-old Brett M. Fontenot of Ville Platte, according to a report from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
The wreck occurred about 2 a.m. Friday.
Fontenot was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on U.S. 167 when, for unknown reasons, the pickup ran off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected to the left, entered a ditch and overturned, police said.
Fontenot was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Fontenot was pronounced dead on scene by a Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office representative.
It is unknown if impairment was a contributing factor, but standard toxicology results were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
