A 26-year-old Eunice man was shot in the chest in a robbery at about 2 a.m. today in the 200 block of Jelk, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The victim was outside when he was approached by a black male wearing a hoodie and dreds, Fontenot said.
The man demanded everything from the victim and when the victim said he didn’t have anything, the assailant patted him down and found a wallet, which he took, Fontenot said.
The assailant then shot the victim in the chest with a .380-caliber pistol, he said.
The assailant fled.
The victim went back in to the residence and “woke up everybody and told everybody the had been shot,” Fontenot said.
“It hurts. It hurts,” the victim could be heard saying on the phone as the dispatcher listen, he said.
The victim, who was taken to a Lafayette hospital, is cooperating with police in the investigation.
