At about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash on La. 10 near La. 182 in St. Landry Parish. The crash took the life of 45-year-old Daniel Scott Palmer of Maurice.
The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Palmer was driving a 1999 Lexus L47 SUV westbound on La. 10 when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a left curve. Upon doing so, the Lexus exited the roadway and struck an embankment of a small canal.
Palmer was restrained at the time of the crash. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is unknown and standard toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troop I has investigated 33 fatal crashes resulting in 36 deaths in 2020.
