Liberty annex transfer legislation in committee

Legislation that would transfer ownership of the Liberty Theater annex from the National Park Service to the city is a work in progress. Jerrie Ledoux, community liaison for U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, said legislation has been sent to the National Park Service for approval.

Board adopts proclamation to honor Joubert

Eunice aldermen honored former Mayor Curtis Joubert with a proclamation that also names the entrance to the Liberty Theater for him. Mayor Scott Fontenot said the signage at the theater will be a way for the city to remember Joubert, who was instrumental in reviving the theater.

Aldermen approve Liberty revival

The Liberty Theater is poised for a renewal after the Board of Aldermen approved Mayor Scott Fontenot to complete an agreement with a non-profit. Cajun musician Joel Savoy spoke at the Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen’s meeting. Savoy leads The Association for the Liberty Theatre of Eunice.

Musician Joel Savoy is to present a proposal at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting for a non-profit to revive the Liberty Theater. Savoy spoke at Thursday’s meeting where the mayor and Board set the agenda for the meeting scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in the Eunice Municipal Complex.

Rendez-vous des Cajuns returning to Liberty Theater

The Rendez-vous des Cajuns will return to the city-owned Liberty Theater on Nov. 9 after being held for several weeks at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center. Air conditioning problems caused the show to be moved the Cultural Center and at one point shut the show and center down.

Retail growth possible near Walmart
