There is currently no date given on the re-opening of the post office. The Eunice Post Office, located at 250 Laurel Avenue, is an older building established in 1938 as a stone plaque on the front building reads, “Henry Morgenthau Jr., Secretary of the Treasury, James A. Farley, Postermaster General, Louis A. Simon, Supervising Architect, Neal A. Melick, Supervising Engineer, 1938.”
According to Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot, “The Post Office will be closed, due to safety concerns. There will cleaning and renovations done, and not quite sure of the re-opening date.”
State Representative Phillip DeVillier released information, via social media, concerning the closure as well, and said, “I have been informed that the Post Office will be temporarily closed starting Sept. 21 due to a health issue. While cleaning takes place customers will be redirected to another location to pick up mail for those who have post office boxes. “As of now, the drop off boxes will remain in service. I am contacting our Federal officials for guidance in this matter.”
Delivery operations have been temporarily relocated to the Opelousas Post Office, located at 152 Wallior Street, in Opelousas, however, Eunice customers should see no change in their mail delivery service.
