Twenty-three law enforcement officers, who are on a ride from Dallas to Baton Rouge, arrived in Eunice Thursday and made an overnight stay at LSUE.
The bicyclists, which included three East Baton Rouge deputies, three Baton Rouge Police officers and 17 officers from Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, arrived at the Eunice City Lake.
The riders started on July 7 after a ceremony marking the one-year anniversary of an ambush in Dallas that left five officers dead. That shooting was followed by a shooting on July 17, 2016, in Baton Rouge that left three officers dead.
The riders left on Friday morning for their Baton Rouge trip where a ceremony is planned to honor the fallen officers on the anniversary of the shooting a year ago.
The organizer of the ride is the Texas Brotherhood Ride, which held its first ride in 2014 to honor 19 officers who died in the line of duty in 2013 in Texas.
The Texas Brotherhood website states this year’s ride is about 500 miles long and will collect donations for the families of the eight officers who were killed in the Baton Rouge and Dallas ambushes.
