Shortly after 5 a.m. Monday, June 19, Eunice Police with the assistance of Louisiana State Police executed a search warrant of a residence at 511 S. Mallet Street with an arrest warrant in hand for the arrest of Brycelyn Ray Anderson, age 17, of 511 S. Mallet St, Eunice.
According to Police Chief Randy Fontenot, the arrest warrant was for the offense of Attempted Second Degree Murder of Travis Mitchell, a victim of the June 6 shootings which occurred in the street in front of 511S. Mallet St. Mitchell was shot three times. He has since been released from the hospital, but his brother, Clarence Mitchell, also a victim in these shootings remains hospitalized.
Travis and Clarence Mitchell are relatives of the 7-year-old who was caught up in gun fire on E. Maple Ave earlier on the evening of June 6.
Chief Fontenot also reported the arrest of Germario Joseph, age 19, also of 511 S. Mallet Street for the charge of possession of marijuana. These charges were the result of the marijuana being found on Joseph during the execution of the search warrant.
Last week Chief Fontenot announced the restructuring of the Eunice Police Department in response to the recent shootings and activities of juveniles in the city. That restructuring went into effect today.
"This is only the beginning of the police department's efforts to end the criminal activities of the few in Eunice who are disrupting the normal peace and quiet of our streets," Chief Fontenot said. "We are determined to take back our streets and keep our citizens safe. Those of you who are determined to disturb our peace are being warned, we have only begun today."
