The St. Landry Parish School System will end its emergency meal program on Tuesday, according to a news release from the system.
The last meals will be served Tuesday.
“The number of students we feed each day continues to rise as our resources continue to diminish. In the last two weeks, we have provided over 28,000 meals to the students of SLPSS. This is indicative of the needs of our students in St. Landry Parish. We are currently exploring other options to fill that need including Meals-to-You, Healthy School Food Collaborative, and Three O’Clock Project,” the news release stated.
The St. Landry Parish School System has applied for the “Meals-to-You” Program , a program derived from a collaboration between Baylor University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the news released stated. If approved, free meals will be provided to parish students for the duration of the COVID-19 school closure .
“Another option we are exploring is The Healthy School Food Collaborative , a meal management program that would also provide meals throughout the duration of the closure.
“Additionally, we are seeking to partner with Three O’Clock Project during the transition period.

“We will keep you updated via social media and our website as to the status of our efforts to provide meals via third-party meal providers. Please know that we remain steadfast in exploring all possible opportunities for our students in this very difficult time,” the news released concluded.
