Two separate shootings over the weekend in Eunice

An accidental shooting happened Saturday approximately at 9:30 p.m. in which a 18 -year-old man was driving a vehicle on West Maple and a 20 -year -old backseat passenger from Texas had his gun in his hand, opened his door to sneeze or spit and the gun went off. According to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot, “The driver of the vehicle was hit in the back, and chest area. He is listed in stable condition.
Fontenot said, “The passenger, Sharoyd Malveaux of Bay Town, Texas was booked with negligent injury.”
A second shooting happened Sunday morning in Eunice, with a nine-year-old child recovering from the incident.
According to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot, The child was shot shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.
Fontenot added that he believes the child’s injuries are non-life threatening.
Fontenot said, “The child was not the intended target of shooting. Someone in a car was firing their gun at a car, and one round hit the car and two others hit the child,
“The little boy was walking with three other children, but they weren’t hurt, the chief said.
Fontenot said that the child is recovering and doing well. Neither of his gunshot wounds were in critical areas. Fontenot added, "Talked with the child, he seemed to be in a good spirit."
The shooting happened on Boudreaux Street.
The police are searching for persons of interest.
