May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As a volunteer and advocate with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, this month I am asking everyone to join us and demand #MoreForMentalHealth.
Making government transparent is always going to be a work in progress. The Louisiana Press Association is at the forefront of providing public notices in a variety of formats, including online portals.
But fundamental to the process is government making the information available.
Newspapers remain one of the cheapest ways to communicate and establish a reliable public record.
Since the days of Benjamin Franklin, who was one the nation’s earliest printers, to today, the printed word on a piece of paper is the tried and true standard for a historic record.
After encouraging some younger teachers of St. Landry parish not to leave for another Parish, I spoke to several others in and out of the parish and combined their remarks. Lets see if I’ve got this right.
Recently during a TV interview, I watched several teachers from St. Landry Parish express their feelings about issues with the St. Landry Parish School Board. I was amazed at the courage they showed in revealing the truth about the problems they were forced to contend with every day.
What a great New Year’s present the motorists from surrounding areas, the city of Eunice (especially those of us living in the southwestern fourth of our fair city) are receiving!
I’m talking about the almost completed re-surfacing of Maple Avenue, from Hwy. 13 west to the Acadia Parish line.
