Bellard wins St. Landry Parish president race

Jessie Bellard easily won the race for St.Landry Parish president in Saturday’s election with 59% of the vote, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.

Parish president election is Saturday

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for an election that includes the race for St. Landry Parish president. Candidates are Jessie Bellard and Dwain Buller. At the end of early voting on March 13, 3,472 votes had been cast. Of those, 1,918 were cast in person and 1,554 absentee.

Early voting continues Monday

Early voting continues Monday through Saturday at the Eunice City Hall, 300 S. 2nd St., for the March 20 election. Early voting is also scheduled at the St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters office, 118 S. Court St., Suite 114, Opelousas. Early voting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parish president candidates file campaign finance reports

The two candidates for St. Landry Parish president, Jessie Bellard and Dwain Buller, have filed campaign finance reports with the Louisiana Board of Ethics that show combined they raised $55,628.83 and have spent 33,121.13. The reports are required for 30 days prior to the election.

Buller is candidate for St. Landry Parish president

Dwain Buller, lifelong resident of St. Landry Parish, has announced his candidacy for St. Landry Parish president. The special election for this seat is set for Saturday, March 20, with Early Voting is slated to be held March 6 through 13. Buller is the son of Stanley Buller, Jr.

Congressional races draw a crowd

On the final day of qualifying, the race for the 5th Congressional District seat ended up with 13 candidates. The 5th District includes much of northeast Louisiana and stretches south to Opelousas. Qualifying ended on Friday with a two-way race for St. Landry Parish president.

2-way race for parish president at noon Friday

A two-way race for St. Landry Parish president remained as of noon Friday. Qualifying began Wednesday and ended at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The race developed earlier with Jessie Bellard, interim parish president, and Dwain Buller qualifying on Wednesday.

Registration, voting deadlines set for upcoming elections

The last day to register to vote by mail/in person is Feb. 17 for the primary election on March 20, announced Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters. Registration applications may be completed at the Registrar’s Office in Suite 114 of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse at 118 S.
