Lady Wolves claim playoff opener win over Springfield

RAYNE - Capping off the regular season last week with a win to claim the district title, the Rayne High Lady Wolves claimed a first-round win over Springfield in the bi-district bracket of the 2018 LHSAA State Volleyball Playoffs.
Seeded at No. 9 in District III, Rayne claimed the win over No. 24-seed Springfield in three-straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-7).
“Considering we have two starters out today, I think we played well,” stated Rayne High Head Coach Stepanie Garrett following Monday’s bi-district win.

Acadia Parish sends all six volleyball teams into postseason play

The Notre Dame Lady Pios headline a list of six Acadia Parish volleyball teams to earn a postseason berth when the LHSAA released its 2018 playoff brackets Monday afternoon.
The Lady Pios earned the No. 2 seed in Division IV and will entertain No. 31 M.L. King Charter in the opening round Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Notre Dame finished the regular season with a 31-14 record while M.L. King Charter comes in at 12-7.
A victory by the Lady Pios would likely put them in the regional round on Friday against either No. 15 St. Thomas Aquinas (19-14) or No. 18 Patterson (14-7).

Blue Jays earn second straight 4-1A title

With the song “We are the Chmpions” blaring over the loudspeakers, the Blue Jays celebrated back-to-back District 4-1A championships as St. Edmund cruised to a 42-0 win over Merryville Thursday night.
“I am proud of the way our guys played all year,” St. Edmund head coach Andy Hargroder said after the win. “We were able to move the ball on offense and play stromg defense and the seniors helped lead the way to their second straight district title.”

Bearcats, Bears cruise in wins

LAKE CHARLES – The Bearcats sealed second place in District 4-1A as Basile rolled to a 40-6 victory at Hamilton Christian Thursday night.
No. 6 Basile now waits for the Class 1-A bracket to be released to find out who they will face to open the playoffs.
Basile (8-2, 6-1) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a 64-yard run and Jose Palacios added the PAT.
The Bearcats took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter after Izzy Drehemsis scored on a 6-yard run.
Reed added touchdown runs of 45- and 35-yards to push Basile’s margin to 27-0 at intermission.

Bobcats, Bulldogs battle for 5-3A title

It all comes down to this – undefeated Iota visits one-loss Eunice with the District 5-3A title on the line.
Eunice’s only loss on the season was a 22-20 loss to then undefeated Church Point, a team Iota would later defeat 15-12.
The Bobcats remained in the district hunt after a 37-14 win over Northwest highlighted by over 300 yards rushing.
“We know we have three good running backs so we try and use them as much as we can,” Trosclair said of Avery Lee, Deon Ardoin and Jeoul Hill. “Coach (Andre) Vige did a good job of mixing it up against the Raiders.”
